Let’s start with the first and most obvious criterion:
Taste: ★★★★★
If you are a dog guardian, you will know that your dog will make it very apparent to you what they think of their food. As for Royal Canin Lebanon, every guardian that we spoke to said that their dogs were as enthusiastic about consuming Royal Canin as they were about receiving treats! This also applies to the GMAP shelter dogs. All of these dogs favored Royal Canin when it was presented to them alongside another brand. Our dogs’ reactions clearly show that the flavor profile of Royal Canin dog food is highly appealing to our best friends’ palette.
For this reason, we give Royal Canin five stars in the taste department.
Let’s move on to what exactly our dogs were tasting:
Nutritional Composition:★★★★☆
According to Royal Canin’s website, Royal Canin follows a nutrient-first approach using high quality ingredients and precise formulas to meet each pet’s nutritional requirements, depending on age, size, breed, activity levels, sensitivities, health status, and other important physiological factors. Regardless of the type, each bag of Royal Canin dog food consists of animal proteins, plant proteins and cereals, fibers, and fats and oils. These are all the essential nutrients dogs need to live happy and healthy lives. Given its high-quality ingredients and stellar nutritional profile, this makes Royal Canin dog food just slightly behind homemade dog food, which is considered the best overall for dogs’ general health.
Additionally, the GMAP shelter dogs that are healing from injuries or illnesses always do so at a faster rate when fed Royal Canin versus other dog foods. Since our staff noticed this, we even have an unspoken rule at GMAP that our new rescues are to be fed Royal Canin so that they can quickly regain their health! This is how nutritious, healthy, and hearty Royal Canin Lebanon actually is.
Taking all of this into account, we will rate Royal Canin four out of five stars in the nutritional composition category, only because it is still one step behind homemade dog food when it comes to freshness, ingredient control, and other factors.
So, how did our dogs’ systems digest these nutrients?
Ease of digestion: ★★★★★
All our volunteers, staff, friends, and associates unanimously agreed that not only did Royal Canin help their dogs’ digestion, it actually improved it! With Royal Canin, the dogs had regular and healthy bowel movements with no signs of stomach upset or irritation to their digestive systems. The GMAP shelter dogs also experience diarrhea and digestive upset with many other brands, but not with Royal Canin!
Clearly the high quality ingredient and essential nutrient combo work wonders when it comes to all our dogs, and this is especially impressive considering it is bagged and dry dog food, which is notoriously harder to keep fresh. So, for this category, we rate Royal Canin five out of five stars.
Coat condition:★★★★★
This is where Royal Canin Lebanon really shines (pun intended)! Everyone we interviewed once again raved about how shiny, lustrous, and healthy their dogs’ fur was after a certain period of exclusively consuming Royal Canin dog food. Since a dog’s coat is considered an important visual indicator of their health, this means that our dogs were healthy on the inside and outside from consuming Royal Canin Lebanon!
For the coat metric, we will also rate Royal Canin five out of five stars.

For the first commitment, Royal Canin is working on reducing its carbon emissions and creating more sustainable packaging, overall making the world a better place for people and animals, which shows us that they are abiding by this claim. Our reviewers can personally attest to this brand fulfilling its other promises by the wonderful effect Royal Canin has had on their pets’ health and happiness. One of our reviewers even confessed that she has been exclusively feeding her dogs Royal Canin for 18 years, and that she trusts no other brand to fulfill her dogs’ needs!

This, according to our reviewers, is the only area where Royal Canin falls short. With average prices ranging from $90 to $100 for a 12 kg bag of Royal Canin Lebanon dog food, this brand might not be the most budget-friendly. However, every reviewer conceded that the high price tag was well-worth the difference it made in their dogs’ quality of life!
